Cabin-Fever Block Party

The last time I remember a snow like this was the blizzard of '93 when I had to miss my 9th birthday party at Chuck E. Cheese. Snowmageddon is what some people are calling it... & it really felt that way Saturday when the only thing in the roads were pedestrians & even the grocery store was closed.

I wouldn't go as far as to call it Snowmageddon, it was more like a snowday vacation for the whole city. It seems like everyone I know has a story about how they met their neighbors for the first time or had a neighborhood snowfight. You know, old school snowday style.

It was such a lovely snowed-in weekend that I was surprised by how quickly it turned into cabin fever! I woke up yesterday morning & just felt like I needed to escape. Get me out of South Side! SNOWMAGEDDON! Pittsburgh did the worst job ever dealing with the snow. "Hey let's not touch it til Monday when the roads are a sheet of ice & can't be plowed anyway, ok? Ok!"

Today I ventured into work even though school was canceled again... it was the scariest commute of my life. As I was driving along, subject to whatever tire tracks  some SUV with 4-wheel drive had gouged out for me, I literally said a prayer for a temporary ninja-reflexes miracle.  I made it in alive so maybe it worked?

Here's the fun part: more snow on it's way in about 1 hour. Great.

So I hope you all have a lovely day. I'm going to find some nice stranger to help push my car out of it's parking spot / snowbank & hope my ninja reflexes get me home safe again. (& if I don't find somewhere with in a indoor running track soon I might loose it.)

  1. Wow! I remember the blizzard of '79 in Michigan with drifts over four feet! We had two, yes two weeks off school!
