Hi everyone, and welcome to the first Flashback Friday hosted here at Heya Sparky! I'm so excited to be hosting the link up... probably more than I should actually admit, there was a lot of jumping around & embarrassing myself at work... but I've loved Flashback Friday since Day 1 & take it as an incredible honor that Tia even asked me. So thank you to everyone in advance whose here to link up & tell some stories... you're all fantastic beyond words!
Ok, on to the Flashback...
Last weekend I visited the parents & came face to face with a set of photos I almost forgot existed.... here's a hint: There's twelve of them in the same frame, shaped in an oval, & are memorials to every embarrassing hairstyle I've ever had. That's right, the school photo-day collection. It's my own personal loop of shame & hilarity. The perms, the crazy fake background, the progression of how a strangely shaped little girl actually turned into a real person after all. And it only took 12 years. I'll spare you the full collection & give you my favorite 3 from across the ages:
Kindergarten. The last time glasses of that size can be cute. After that you just look like your Grandma or a hipster... which kind of look similar anyway.
Fourth Grade. That's right, you're witnessing a permed bowl-cut... the things legends are made of. And speaking of Grandmas, I expect to look like this again in my life, maybe in another 50 years.
Sixth grade. I finally traded the glasses for contacts, and the perm for a more Marsha Brady look. My self-awareness must have really kicked in after this because the rest of my photos look like a normal 90's kid in flannel, headbands & white eyeliner, but let's celebrate it for the glorious cluelessness it was.
So here's the 1-2-3 of joining in....
- Share a flashback of your own. Dig through old photos & tell us a little story of days gone by. Click the little blue "Add Your Link" button below to link up.
- Grab a button & add it to your post to let others know where the party's at.
- Click click click... Stop by others' blogs who are linked up & leave them a little comment love. Half the fun is laughing WITH each other! Ok you can laugh AT me too.
Here I am!!! I just finished my post you requested (thank you for reminding me, as I really did plan on joining in with you as the new host!) And can I just say, your kick off post is AWESOME!! Omg. I laughed so hard! Girlfriend, I believe it was flashback friday that brought you and I together and how cool is this now?! Thrilled to laugh at your hair (so cute though) and honored to be your real friend in this big crazy bloggie world! Congrats again! Can't wait to join in more and support you and your new adventure! xoxoxo
ReplyDeleteYay! Thanks for taking this over! I will be here pretty much every week, I won't promise because I am forgetful lol. I am so excited for you and I just love your pictures lol. Thanks again hun!
ReplyDeleteLove the walk down (hair) memory lane! Awesome way to kick off your new hosting duties! Looking forward to linking up on Fridays.
ReplyDeleteA lovely portrait
ReplyDeleteHi there! Thanks for taking this on. I only post flashbacks sporadically, but I would have been sad if flashback friday were gone altogether. Not sure if I'll get a post up today, but it's nice to know that you've got this all under control. ;)
ReplyDeleteLove your kindergarten pic... cute!
Ha, I can totally relate. My Gramma used to perm my hair for me all through Elementary School. Ugh.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, the grandma one is too much! I LOVE it! You should see some of the sweaters and hairstyles I rocked and you'll know I share your pain.
ReplyDeleteHope you have fun with the flashbacks! You're the right woman for the job. Also, your pictures are ridiculous, though I can't claim to not have some grade-school pics with huge glasses as well. Darn bad eyesight!
ReplyDeleteOh, I love old school pictures. Not my own, of course... but yours are cute. Thanks for hosting Flashback Friday!
ReplyDeleteThanks for hosting! My mom, being the blunt woman she was, used to say that she never got the 12 slot frames, because she knew we would all be horrific in at least one photo. My big photo fail was 3rd grade, where I cut my own bangs that morning before school.
ReplyDeleteThank you for hosting. I'm a new follower.
ReplyDeleteI have a page on my site that lists more than 300 hops, memes, and photo challenges… some for each day of the week. Yours is listed there, too! Check under the header for the link to that page. I’ve also started a BlogFrog community that focuses on hops, carnivals, memes, and photo challenges. Go to http://theblogfrog.com/1504201 to visit & participate.

Aw, you were always adorable :) I'm convinced, though, that back in the day, they took these school pictures so that someday someone who wanted money from you would have blackmail material! Posting mine is the only way to make keep anyone from doing it to me.
ReplyDeleteOh and BTW, LOVED your vlog. I swear, you and Chana need to be TV hostesses. You are just so good on film :)
Ahhh, love these photos! Man, you just have to give those school photo backgrounds credit--they just seemed to permeate North American school photos throughout the eighties and early nineties, I think you could date a photo by those backgrounds alone!! Especially love that first photo-so cute! My best friend had those exact glasses.
ReplyDeleteThese are great pictures! They gave me a good chuckle. Thanks for hosting flashback fridays - I have only been participating for a little while now but I actually enjoy the opportunity to be nostalgic.
ReplyDeleteMy post is about hair too!
