Week 17

This week our church is sending a team to Chiapas, Mexico. I made the decision not to go this year & my heart's breaking a little because of it. (more info about why we go: here) It was the right call but that doesn't mean I can't be sad & miss our friends down there... and be happy for the new team at the same time! They're going to have such a good time & I love the ongoing relationship between their family & ours.

The best & worst times of my life have been in Mexico... that's not a dramatic statement, it's just honest. I've lived a lot of life in my 2 trips. There were moments where I've never been so happy or felt so at home... but like I said the worst time in my life happened there too. I can't even start to describe it, just that a good friend got very hurt.  I needed to go back last year, I needed the healing & to experience it again as a good, safe, wonderful place.

And it is.

And I miss it.

Wouldn't you miss those faces?

  1. I miss those faces already even though I haven't met them yet!

  2. I'm so sorry for you that you aren't able to go. What a beautiful experience you've had in your visits there and what an amazing thing your group does for the people there. Your pics are great and I can totally understand your disappointment and sadness.

  3. Actually they would probably accept some cash toward building supplies, if you remember we had to give that out of pocket. If you want to donate something I'd track down Derek before the group leaves.

  4. I can see why you miss it so much! It's so heartwarming when you experience something that is all about doing good for others. It's also heartbreaking when something happens during the experience that is not what you could or would ever expect. I worked at a summer camp for children with HIV/AIDS for 4 years, and I was witness to millions of moments that changed me and my point of view for LIFE....and I was witness to a few moments that disturbed me to my core. It's like a "mini" version of life I guess, when you dedicate yourself to doing good...your soul sort of seeks out the good and tries to soak most of that in.
